Finnish artist Sini Villi (b. 1980, Nivala) creates mesmerizing three-dimensional textile artworks from handmade ribbon. Each piece is patiently layered, sewn and shaped into a sculptural relief that, once hardened, holds their own unique form.
Sini Villi´s visual language is rooted in her childhood landscape of Northern Ostrobothnia, where vast, silent fields and seasonal rhythms shaped her eye. Her works evoke the tactile memory of fields and forests, their cyclical transformations mirrored in layered compositions. The rhythm of ploughed earth, the pale stillness of snow, and the renewal of growth are reflected in her ongoing exploration of repetition, texture, and organic form.
"I am inspired by the endless layers and spiral patterns of nature. These softly repetitive shapes have been an essential part of my art since the beginning."
Having graduated with a Bachelor of Culture and Arts in 2004, Villi spent years working across fashion and interior textiles before devoting herself entirely to textile art. Her path toward art emerged from a longing to slow down and to uncover the sculptural language of soft, flowing materials.
Sini Villi ́s work is exhibited in galleries across Europe, including Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Helsinki, Tallinn, and Stockholm. Villis art is found in the Finnish State Art Collection, the Oulu Museum of Art Collection, Delen Private Bank Art Collection in Belgium and private collections worldwide.
